In the sixth year of Thieu Bao (1), the Yuan dynasty prepared to invade the Great Viet, Grand Emperor Tran Thanh Tong (2) and Emperor Tran Nhan Tong (3) summonned the the oldsters throughout the country to convene at the Dien Hong temple. The Emperors asked:
- The Yuan invader want to despoil our country. We should fight or surrender?
The oldsters cried out, all at the same time:
- Fight!



Annotation:
(1) Thieu Bao: year label used by Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, from 1279 to 1285. The sixth year of Thieu Bao is 1284.
(2) Tran Thanh Tong: second emperor of the Tran dynasty, named Tran Hoang, ruled from 1258 to 1278, held the title Grand Emperor from 1279 to his death in 1290.
(3) Tran Nhan Tong: third emperor of the Tran dynasty, named Tran Kham, ruled from 1278 to 1293, held the title Grand Emperor from 1294 to his death in 1308.
