Doctor Vu Pham Khai worked in the Court of the Imperial Clan (1) for the teaching of the princelets. Hearing the fame of the pupil Nguyen Doan Cu, doctor Vu called him to discourse. After the discussion, doctor Vo uttered an appreciation:
- Your learning is really practical. Today everyone is studying just for examinations.
When Vu Pham Khai retired, he recommended Nguyen Doan Cu in his place and Emperor Tu Duc (2) agreed.
Annotation:
(1) In vietnamese: Phủ Tôn Nhân.
(2) Tu Duc: fourth emperor of the Nguyen dynasty, named Nguyen Phuc Thi or Nguyen Phuc Hong Nham, ruled from 1847 to 1883.
